White Dobermans for the most part are easy dogs to teach and quick to learn. There are mis-conceptions about this white dog. They were first bred about 30 years ago with white being a recursive gene at that time. The gene pool was small but with over thirty years of quality breeding there are now over 500. There has been some literature and negative publicity by people who believed that these dogs were albinos and had health problems that included blindness and poor hearing as well as skin problems. All this is far from the truth. Their eyes are light blue and dilate a little slower in bright sunlight. White Dobermans don't sunburn any worse than a person who spends too much time in the sun. These dogs have blue eyes not "pink" witch is the first and most notable trait in albinism. This coloration is inherited in a recessive manner, as is classic albinism. We recently studied the DNA sequence of tyrosine's in such dogs, (and blue and Isabella Pinschers), and found no mutation in the coding sequence of this gene. Any hearing problems have nothing to do with the color.  We breed a superior large boned dog that runs between 85 and 105 lbs. We have not had any problems traceable to genetics. These pups are bred for temperament and conform the highest standards of breeding. The White Pinscher is recognized by the AKC.

The first "white Doberman", registered with the American Kennel Club as Padula's Queen Shebah, was born on November 10, 1976. She was sired by Rasputin VI and her dam was Dynamo Humm, both of which were black and rust. When Shebah's application for registration was sent in to the AKC, they had never before been asked to register a Doberman of this color before so they implemented an investigation. The AKC determined that this white dog, was in fact  purebred, since she was produced by two purebred Dobermans, so her registration was approved and accepted in 1978. In the following years, many tests were performed on both Shebah herself, and on her offspring. It was determined from this testing that the gene which produces this color is a masking gene. In other words, it "takes over" and masks the color that the dog would be otherwise. There is no evidence that this gene carries with it any deleterious or adverse health problems that are sometimes associated with albino animals such as deafness, blindness, or unstable minds.

The Doberman Pinscher was developed in Germany toward the end of the 19th century. The Germans wanted to create a functional protection and guard dog that would also serve as a family companion. These dogs were selected for their courage and intelligence. One of the most well-known early breeders was Louis Dobermann, from whom the breed takes its name. It is uncertain how many and exactly which breeds were used to create this breed of dog.  What is certain is that the breed assumed its present appearance fairly rapidly and was recognized by the German Kennel Club in 1899.

Early Pinschers were noted for their "sharp" temperaments but decades of careful breeding has produced a nearly ideal all-round working dog, intelligent, brave and loyal. Dobermans are alert and watchful dogs, and fearless when threatened with danger. This is an energetic breed of dog, particularly when young, and benefit from regular training and exercise from the start. With high intelligence and confidence comes determination, so a owner must be prepared to be patient, firm and consistent in training. This breed of dog excels in performance events, particularly in obedience and protection work.
